Catholics were the only until 1947 to have a secondary education in Gabon, from a small workshop established in 1855. The brightest were identified from the primary, if necessary sent to Libreville and facing in the religious life. Many former seminarian, without entering into definitive in orders, formed the intellectual elite Gabon played a key role in the country attained independence.
